‘West Brom contact Liverpool over Nat Phillips move ahead of Wrexham’

West Brom are looking to add Premier League quality to new-boss Ryan Mason’s squad in the form of Liverpool ace Nat Phillips.

The Baggies are heading into their fifth consecutive season in the Championship, and will fancy their chances of making a playoff run next season at the very least.

The main priority will be maintaining a steady stewardship of the club, having been forced to hire Tony Mowbray as a mid-season replacement for Carlos Corberan.

Mason was hired by West Brom this summer and Football Insider revealed exclusively that Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane played a role in his appointment.

The Midlands side’s main struggles last season were in the offensive department. One-time Everton target Tom Fellows led the team in goal contributions with 18, but only Josh Maja hit a double-digit goal tally.

But with a view to strengthening all departments of their squad this summer, the Baggies have made contact with Liverpool about the signing of Phillips, according to The Times.

Phillips spent last season on loan at Derby, featuring 33 times as the Rams narrowly avoided relegation.

Despite their struggles, the ex-Celtic loanee impressed for his side and will be in-demand this summer.

According to the report, West Brom have made “club-to-club contact” with Liverpool, as the defender is wanted at the Hawthorns.

However, Wrexham are also interested in the defender, having achieved promotion to England’s second tier last season.

Football Insider Verdict

The Baggies’ interest in Premier League players is making a clear statement; the club are no longer content being a Championship side.

West Brom are interested in bringing Tottenham wonderkid Mikey Moore to the Hawthorns, amid interest from Birmingham in the 17-year-old.

Whilst the Blues are building an exciting project, having broken the EFL’s point record last season, the young winger’s time working with Mason in North London will likely give the Baggies an edge on securing his signature.

Meanwhile, West Brom are competing with Rangers to sign George Bello from Austrian side LASK, Pete O’Rourke revealed to Football Insider.

Both players, alongside Phillips, would be serious additions to any Championship squad and the Midlands side are establishing themsevles as early promotion contenders.
