West Brom explore Mikey Johnston deal as Celtic asking price revealed

West Brom are exploring a deal to re-sign Mikey Johnston from Celtic in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Johnston, 25, spent the second half of last season thriving on loan at The Hawthorns and Albion are now weighing up the possibility of a permanent deal or another loan.

Carlos Corberan’s side are expected to move players on to raise funds in the transfer window, in an attempt to fund their summer business.

Celtic value the winger at upwards of £6million following his impressive loan spell.

Johnston is under contract at Celtic Park until 2026 but could now consider his options after spending six months in the Championship.

West Brom weigh up permanent bid to sign Mikey Johnston from Celtic

After arriving on loan in January, Johnston made 20 appearances for the Baggies, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.

His performances after coming in on loan allowed West Brom to reach the playoffs where he assisted a goal in the second leg against Southampton, before falling to a 3-1 defeat.

Those displays established him as a fan-favourite at The Hawthorns, with fans calling for him to make the permanent switch if a deal presents itself.

Celtic icon Frank McAvennie previously told Football Insider that Johnston is unlikely to return to Celtic and would find a permanent exit route in the summer.

Albion have struggled with financial issues this season despite the arrival of new owner Shilen Patel, with the wage bill needing to be trimmed before they can do business.

Former Scotland defender Alan Hutton told Football Insider that Johnston put himself in the shop window with his performances, leaving a big decision to be made this summer.
