Kieran Maguire: Guocuhaun Lai 'has no money' amid concerning' £25m West Brom development
West Brom owner Guocuhaun Lai has opted to take out a £25million loan because “he doesn’t appear to have any money”.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest “concerning” news from behind the scenes at the Hawthorns.
Lai loaned himself £5m from that club purse last years, and that sum does not yet appear to have been repaid.
The Daily Mail reported last Friday (28 October) that the Baggies have now taken out a £25m loan from MSD Holdings.
It is claimed that the cash will be used for January signings, with Albion currently second from bottom in the Championship.
Maguire explained why Lai would take this option rather than supply the money himself.

“The reason Lai is unlikely to fund signings himself is that he doesn’t appear to have any money,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The West Brom owner took the unusual step of borrowing money from the club. For, practically every other club in both the EFL and the Premier League it is normally the other way around. T
“here are a lot of concerns among Baggies fans as to the actual role of Mr Lai. Is he the beneficial owner or is he doing something for other people?
“Therefore, the discussion of a £25m loan from MSD Holdings is a little bit strange given that West Brom don’t have any parachute payments once this season is over.
“Gambling money on transfers to try to get yourself into a play-off or promotion position comes at a high risk.“
