Kieran Maguire shares £411m transfer reveal after ‘remarkable’ West Ham takeover news

West Ham have spent £411million on transfers over the last five years but will still have plenty of FFP “wiggle room” under new owners.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about takeover developments at the London Stadium.

As per The Times on 29 October, Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky is in talks to buy a 27 per cent stake in West Ham for £150m.

The potential equity purchase from David Gold and David Sullivan is expected to come with the option of a full takeover further down the line.

West Ham are flying high under David Moyes in the league and have a 100 per cent record in the Europa League.

Maguire predicts that the new regime could afford to splash the cash and improve an already excellent squad too.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “They certainly have some wiggle room in terms of financial fair play.

“That shouldn’t be an issue in the transfer market. Per the accounts, their spending over the last five years was £411m.

“So they have been spending, although some of those spends haven’t worked. Sebastien Haller is the prime example.

“The net spend over the last five years is £231m. So they haven’t been conservative in the transfer market.

“Fans have been upset with the quality of the product, but this year David Moyes has done an excellent job.

“If the reports are accurate, there’s no reason the deal can’t go fairly quickly. It’s remarkable how quickly it has all happened.”
