Exclusive: Midfielder agrees terms with West Ham
EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen agreed the terms of a new contract with the club before joining Bolton Wanderers on loan, Football Insider sources understand.
The Championship club announced on their official website on Tuesday afternoon that Cullen, 21, and fellow youngster Reece Burke, 20, had moved to the Macron Stadium on short-term loan deals which will expire in January.
The move had been held up as Burke and Cullen were both away with West Ham recently on their tour of Austria and Germany, but the pair are now in place at the Macron Stadium.
Football Insider has learned from a source close to the situation that central midfielder Cullen has committed to a new Hammers deal before being given the green light to move on loan to Bolton.
Cullen spent two seasons on loan at Bradford, making 63 appearances for the club, and West Ham have loaned him out again so that he can continue to get regular first-team experience under his belt.
Bolton boss Phil Parkinson is a big admirer of both the Irons’ youngster after working with them during his time in charge of Bradford City.
Centre-back Burke spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic after spending the previous season at Bradford.
Both players are down the pecking order in Slaven Bilic’s plans in the West Ham first-team and the club feel the pair will benefit from going out on loan again this season.
In other West Ham transfer news, a bid has been made for this midfield playmaker on the Irons’ radar.
