West Ham backed to pull off ‘massive’ Dejan Lovren signing after transfer update – pundit

Kevin Phillips has insisted Dejan Lovren would be a “massive signing” for West Ham at this stage of the season.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 32-year-old’s experience would be “invaluable” as the Hammers compete on numerous fronts.

As reported by reputable West Ham news source Claret and Hugh last Tuesday (8 March), the Irons are keeping close tabs on Lovren’s situation at Zenit Saint Petersburg ahead of a potential enquiry.

As confirmed by Fifa last week (7 March), foreign players at Russian clubs are allowed to temporarily sign for new teams, with their contracts suspended due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Players must register with their news sides by April 7 .

They can do so even if the registration window in the country has closed.

Phillips insisted Lovren’s presence at centre-back would be a “massive, massive bonus” for David Moyes’ men.

Phillips told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’d be a massive signing.

“The experience that he’s got would be invaluable at this stage of the season. To try and help the team whether you’re fighting in the Premier League or challenging in Europe.

“To have someone like that at the heart of your defence with his experience, he’s an organiser and a leader. It would be a massive, massive bonus for them.”

Lovren has 162 games of Premier League experience under his belt after his time with Liverpool.
