West Ham backed to seal deal for Serie A midfielder after insider’s reveal – Campbell
Kevin Campbell has backed West Ham in their plans to target players from Serie A in future transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said clubs have to “pay a premium” to sign players from rival Premier League clubs.
According to Hammers insiders Claret and Hugh (11 October), recruitment chief Rob Newman is looking to Serie A ahead of the January transfer window.

There is said to be an interest in signing another central midfielder and a new defender prior to the 2023-24 campaign.
West Ham added Gianluca Scamacca to their squad from Serie A outfit Sassuolo in the summer transfer window.
When asked by Football Insider if targeting Serie A stars could be the way forward for the Irons, Campbell said: “You pay a premium for English players or players from the Premier League.
“I understand why they are looking to Italy.
“If you are a manager, you cannot be blinkered to just think about one market.

“They have got Scamacca from Italy and he looks decent. He is a handful. They know what the Italian market can bring. There are a lot of top footballers there.
“I think this is a good avenue for David Moyes to explore. It will not always work out because the Premier League is different but if you do your due diligence well the player will adapt. There has been many special players come from Italy to the Premier League.”
