Phillips: West Ham must use Anderson cash to land top-class star amid £10m reveal
West Ham should use the cash freed up by Felipe Anderson to sign a player who can deliver an “eight out of ten” performance every week.
That is according to ex-Premier League hitman Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Anderson’s switch to Lazio was confirmed on 16th July.
The Brazilian signed from Lazio for £36million in 2018 and was widely reported to earn in excess of £100,000 a week at the London Stadium.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire told this site on 3rd July that the Hammers are currently spending £10m per month on wages in total.
Anderson showed only fleeting glimpses of his talent during his time at the club before re-signing for Lazio in a reported £4m deal.
And David Moyes should use the wage packet vacated by Anderson to swoop for a far more consistent player, according to Phillips.

“I’m surprised it didn’t work out for him,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs
“At times I watched him and thought: ‘Wow, what a player he is’. But then other times it just looked like he wasn’t interested.
“I can see why he’s frustrating from a manager’s point of view because you’re hoping for players to be consistent. He just isn’t that.
“So from David Moyes’ point of view, I think it’s sensible to get him off the books and free those wages up.
“Maybe you can use it to get someone in who’s going to give you eight out of 10 every week.”
