West Ham backed to sign 'excellent' Fabianski replacement after reported talks begin - pundit
PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola would be an “excellent” signing for West Ham this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he was hugely impressed with the 28-year-old’s displays on loan at Fulham last term.
The Daily Mail report (July 9th) the Irons are in talks to sign Areola on a loan-to-buy basis from PSG.
The shot-stopper joined Fulham in identical circumstances last summer.
However, the Cottagers’ relegation means Areola has returned to the French capital, where he still has two years left on his contract.
Despite suffering the drop, the shot-stopper was voted by fans as Fulham’s player of the season for the 2020/21 campaign.

Hutton suggested he would be excellent cover, competition and a potential replacement for Lukasz Fabianski.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I thought he was an excellent goalkeeper. Am I right in saying he came from PSG?
“He’s obviously had that big-club mentality anyway, even though he wasn’t playing there.
“I thought he had a fantastic season under difficult circumstances at Fulham. He was called upon a lot.
“Fabianski isn’t getting any younger. They’ll be looking to bring someone in to push him because I don’t think they have that.
“There were times last season where Fabianski was injured and they never really had that person to step up and fill that void.
“To bring in someone like Areola, he’s got the experience already, knows the big-team mentality, has played under pressure. I think it would a really good move for them.”
Areola kept 10 clean sheets in 37 appearances for Fulham.
He missed just two Premier League games all season on both the opening and final day.
