West Ham coaches taken aback by Kalvin Phillips in training – sources
West Ham coaches have been taken aback by loanee Kalvin Phillips’ attitude in training and behind the scenes, sources have told Football Insider.
Hammers staff are privately saying that the 28-year-old seems to be undergoing a confidence crisis and has seemingly lost interest in playing Premier League football.
The midfielder is said to have not only underperformed in matches but also been hugely disappointing in training since arriving from Man City in January. Indeed, to the extent that West Ham coaches have been shocked at how bad he has been.
The player himself seems to have been hugely affected by how badly his switch from Leeds United to Man City has worked out.
The Hammers were expecting much better from the midfielder, who has made 10 appearances in claret and blue so far.
West Ham coaches shocked by 28-year-old in East London
Phillips joined Man City from Leeds in July 2022, with the player making 31 appearances in Manchester before his temporary transfer to the London Stadium.
He has made a series of repeated errors when given minutes by David Moyes in East London.
A return to Elland Road is on the cards this summer, with sources telling Football Insider earlier this month that Leeds will need to spend “big money” to re-sign him.

It remains to be seen what his future holds, with former Hammers ace Frank McAvennie telling Football Insider earlier this month that Phillips will not play another match for West Ham this season.
In other news, West Ham fans are all saying the same thing about David Moyes getting sacked.
