West Ham ‘could be forced to sack Nuno Espirito Santo’ amid new twist

West Ham could be forced to make a decision over the future of Nuno Espirito Santo amid ongoing fan protests against the board and their running of the club.

That is according to former West Ham and Man United senior scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected at his previous clubs, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Hammers’ ownership are keen to shift the pressure off of themselves.

Chants of “sack the board” rang out once again at the London Stadium with large sections joining in protests at West Ham lost 1-0 to Fulham over the weekend.

The result meant Nuno‘s side remained in 18th place and five points away from Nottingham Forest and safety, as they remain at risk of being cut adrift.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 30 December that West Ham are unlikely to sack Nuno in the near future and hope he can turn around their fortunes.

West Ham could be forced to sack Nuno Espirito Santo

Brown warned Football Insider in September that Nuno wouldn’t last long at West Ham, because when the pressure ramps up on the board, he will be first to go.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely alongside elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted that the board’s desire to shift the focus could see Nuno sacked.

There is definitely a possibility that Nuno will be sacked,” he told Football Insider.

“On the grounds that the board will sack any manager in a bid to take the pressure off of themselves, it means there’s always the possibility.

“So when the fans at West Ham start calling to sack the board and all of this, it ramps up the pressure and that might force them to make a decision about the manager.

“They’ve shown in the past it’s what they do, whether we agree with it or, in most cases, not.

“That’s part of the problems they have there, there’s no security because you can never predict what these owners are going to do when the fans start to shift.

“They’re a basket case, and the fingers always get pointed towards the manager, but if they think Nuno is the problem then I’ve got news for them.”

When has gone wrong at West Ham this season?

Brown told Football Insider on 21 December that Nuno is facing major problems at West Ham, notably in their inability to hold on to leads.

The Hammers’ failure to grind out points from games could cost them dearly long-term, as they are failing to pick up wins or even points from strong positions.

Nuno has won just two of his 13 matches in charge at the London Stadium, who have now dropped to 18th in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in October that West Ham will get relegated as fingers continue to be pointed at the board despite the on-pitch struggles.

Amid ongoing concerns about performances on the pitch, there are lingering concerns about the board’s attitude towards improving their squad.
