West Ham could sack David Moyes now after source’s Mauricio Pochettino reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed the West Ham board could cave to fan pressure if the Irons faithful turn on current boss David Moyes.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Irons chiefs will be “thinking about a possible next move” with Moyes “under the magnifying glass”.

According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux (29 September), West Ham have “tested the waters” with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, with Moyes’ position becoming increasingly “untenable”.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (30 September) that Aston Villa are also sounding out Pochettino with their current manager Steven Gerrard also under pressure.

It is understood that the former Argentina international defender is keen on the right project and is not interested only in joining a Champions League club.

West Ham have won just one of their opening seven games of the new season and sit 18th in the Premier League.

Whelan suggested Moyes could be sacked if the Irons fall “too far behind the pack”.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Every manager knows they will be under the magnifying glass if they’re not getting results.

“It’s a results-driven business and you can’t fall too far behind the pack. Fans put pressure on the board, and they make decisions off the back of that.

“I don’t think Moyes will be under any impressions that his job is for life – especially in the Premier League.

“If you’re not winning football matches, there will be this speculation. I’m sure West Ham are already thinking about a possible next move.”
