West Ham could sign Lingard for ‘£5m’ in January after source’s reveal – Mills

West Ham may be able to sign Jesse Lingard for just £5million in the January transfer window, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back claimed West Ham could take advantage of Lingard‘s contract situation at Man United and get him on a bargain deal.

The England star has just 12 months left to run on his Old Trafford contract after they triggered an extension last year.

Football Insider revealed on deadline day David Moyes was still working on a deal for Lingard.

Instead, the Hammers added Nikola Vlašić from CSKA Moscow to their attacking ranks.

Asked whether another loan move for Lingard could materialise in January, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I would say no because he will be out of contract.

“There will be part of him that wants to protect himself. I feel a bit for him because he’s done very, very well. He probably deserves better.

“It’s that tricky predicament now where he has a year left. He’s running out of contract time.

“Will Manchester United want to let him go out on loan at that stage? Unlikely, I would suggest. Maybe he won’t want to go out on loan at that stage either for fear of picking up an injury.

“Unless he signs a pre-contract with somebody and goes abroad. That would be another way to do it.

“He’s now looking at a two, three-year deal at best now.

“He did brilliantly at West Ham, he put himself back in the England squad.

Man United

“Somebody will take a gamble on him come the end of the season. It’s just about whether they will take a gamble and take him if Man United don’t want to keep him.

“They may just accept £5million in the January transfer window to get it done and dusted. That’s more realistic.”
