West Ham expert can’t believe what David Moyes has done to Jarrod Bowen
West Ham United manager David Moyes needs to start Jarrod Bowen as a centre-forward instead of Michail Antonio.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that “starman” Bowen, 27, has been much better up top than Antonio, 34.
During Antonio’s 17-game spell on the sidelines with a knee injury between November and February, Moyes opted to field Bowen as his main striker, which proved greatly effective.
Bowen bagged 10 goals in 22 outings in all competitions as a centre-forward, while Antonio has managed just seven across 29 games in all competitions.
West Ham ace Antonio to be permanently dropped for Bowen?
McAvennie admitted that Antonio was not a bad centre-forward, but was adamant that the Hammers could improve if Bowen was given that position permanently.
“Bowen has taken on the star man mantle at West Ham, he’s a sensational footballer,” he told Football Insider.
“He signed his new contract and he’s loving life at the moment.
“He has been playing up front, but he’s better off up there.
“When I look at Michail Antonio at centre-forward at the moment, he’s putting himself about.
“But I just think that Bowen is better up top than Antonio is, even though he’s not a centre-forward.
“Bowen is better at the moment.

“I can’t blame Antonio for [the Crystal Palace defeat] – they were all shocking.
“But I’d say Moyes needs to keep Bowen up top.”
