West Ham expert destroys board for ‘disrespectful’ Moyes treatment

West Ham United have embarrassed themselves by meeting with Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim while David Moyes is still in charge.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie was adamant that the board were “disrespectful” to Moyes, 61, considering he has not announced his departure from the club.

Amorim admitted on Saturday (27 April) to jetting to London to meet with Irons and made a public apology to Sporting, their fans and their players for his “mistake”.

It is believed that West Ham are doing due diligence on multiple potential replacements for Moyes, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign.

West Ham have ‘disrespected’ Moyes with Amorim meeting

McAvennie slaughtered the board for their actions and claimed such a meeting would only be acceptable if the Scotsman had internally revealed his desire to quit this summer.

“I think it’s so disrespectful of West Ham when they have a manager coming over to speak to them when Moyes is still in the job,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t care what anyone thinks of David Moyes, it’s so disrespectful for them to do that.

“It’s embarrassing and I’m embarrassed with the club.

“Unless David has already told them that he’s leaving and he’s just not said it publically yet, then of course they will speak to managers.

“David is a man of his word and if he’s not spoken to them or given them an answer, then it’s so disrespectful to him.

“They could have called Amorim – they didn’t have to make a big thing of him coming on a private jet!”
