West Ham expert: Harry Maguire ‘very likely’ to complete ‘brilliant move’

Harry Maguire would be a “great” addition for West Ham United this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that the Man United ace is “better” than David Moyes’ current centre-back options.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider (21 March) that the Irons will make another formal approach for Maguire, 31, this summer after failing to sign him last year.

The England international’s career at Old Trafford looked to be over, but he has emerged as a dependable option for Erik ten Hag this season having started 13 of the last 14 league games he has been available for.

McAvennie, while admitting Maguire’s international form has been inconsistent, is pleased to see his former side revive their interest and is hopeful he will swap Manchester for London.

“I think a move to from Man United would rebuild Maguire’s confidence,” he told Football Insider.

“I think he’s done well this season and he’s better than what West Ham currently have.

“I wanted him to come last summer.

“Sometimes the Man United jersey can be a bit heavy on some people.

“I think West Ham would be a great club for him and a brilliant move – I really like him and it very likely could happen.

“I watched what he did for England and he didn’t have the best game against Brazil.

“But when it comes to tournaments, not friendlies, he’s been outstanding.”
