West Ham expert reacts to source’s Conor Gallagher reveal – ‘I don’t want him’

West Ham United made the right decision to pull the plug on a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie was adamant that he did not want players at the club who did not want to be there and believes he’s “not that good anyway”.

As revealed by Football Insider (19 December), David Moyes’ side will not revisit their summer interest in the 23-year-old, whose Blues contract expires in the summer of 2025.

The former Crystal Palace loanee has been a mainstay at Stamford Bridge this season, starting all but one Premier League game and captaining the side 10 times in all competitions.

However, McAvennie feels West Ham’s current midfield is more than enough and a move for Gallagher would be futile.

“I don’t think he wants to go,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t want him either, so I’m pleased West Ham have decided against it.

“If somebody doesn’t want to come to your club, then you don’t want them to be there.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what club it is because they’re not going to give you everything.

“He’s not that good anyway. West Ham have some good boys in the midfield so unless they’re special, don’t bother.

“Gallagher will want to fight at Chelsea anyway and makes sure he ties down a place, so fair play to him.”
