West Ham fans explode at ‘shocking’ Alphonse Areola footage from Man United clash

West Ham fans have been left raging at Alphonse Areola after what he did during their pre-season clash against Man United on 27 July.

Graham Potter’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat at the MetLife Stadium in New York, following two goals from Bruno Fernandes before Jarrod Bowen pulled one back.

However, the majority of supporters’ focus rested with the goalkeeper’s display after he gifted both of Man United’s goals in a “shocking” performance.

Initially, the 32-year-old failed to claim the ball from a cross into the box, before diving on the feet of the forward to give away a penalty.

Areola’s second mistake came later in the game as, in his attempts to play out from the back, he presented the ball straight to the Man United midfield.

With the Frenchman becoming Potter’s undisputed number one following Lukasz Fabianski‘s departure, fans are now seriously concerned about his displays.

Mads Hermansen and Aaron Ramsdale on Graham Potter’s list

One goalkeeper on the Hammers’ radar is Leicester City star Mads Hermansen, who is expected to be available given the Foxes’ financial concerns.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 15 July that Leicester will accept offers for Hermansen and £20million could be enough to secure his signature this summer.

Meanwhile, Southampton and England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has also been highlighted as a potential option thanks to his £25million release clause.

Football Insider revealed on 11 May that Potter wants to sign Ramsdale amid a raft of changes at the London Stadium as he desperately seeks to improve his team.

West Ham fans rage after what they saw Areola do v Man United

In the meantime, Areola remains the first-choice goalkeeper in Potter’s side, leading to major concerns from supporters heading into the new season.

As reported by Football Insider in May, West Ham fans have called to sell Areola after a string of poor performances in the second half of last season.

Now, taking to social media following the pre-season defeat to Man United, watching supporters have labelled the goalkeeper “dreadful” and “the worst in the league”.
