West Ham fans rage at ‘thug’ Edson Alvarez as footage re-analysed

West Ham fans took to social media to voice their frustrations after Edson Alvarez was sent off in their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday (November 2).

The 27-year-old left referee Peter Bankes with no other option but to give him a second yellow card after the Mexico international took out Anthony Elanga at the City Ground.

Alvarez’s most recent sending-off marks his second red card in just 10 games having previously been given his marching orders in their 5-1 League Cup to Liverpool earlier in the season.

Chris Wood continued his remarkable form, scoring his ninth goal of the season with a lovely header to open the scoring for the home side.

Callum Huson-Odoi doubled their lead in the 65th minute with a lovely effort from just outside the area followed by Ola Aina’s clinching third goal, sealing the win and pushing Forest into the Champions League places.

West Ham’s fifth defeat of the season piles the pressure on struggling new boss Julen Lopetegui as they sit in 14th with just 11 points for their opening 10 Premier League games.
