'League One quality', 'Woeful footballer' - West Ham fans destroy player after display against Liverpool
By Harry Sykes
Jonathan Calleri spearheaded the West Ham attack in their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday – and fans took to Twitter to destroy the striker.
Calleri played 55 minutes of the London Stadium encounter but made little impact as the visitors gave their hopes of a top-four finish a massive boost.
A Philippe Coutinho double and strikes from Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi propelled Liverpool back to third in the Premier League table, re-opening their four-point gap on Arsenal, who annihilated Stoke on Saturday evening.
Argentine, Calleri, 23, has struggled to make an impact at West Ham during his season-long loan, with his 19 matches yielding a single goal.
His return has prompted criticism from supporters, who have questioned whether he is of the calibre required for a Premier League striker.

That criticism from West Ham fans reached fever pitch on Sunday afternoon following his performance against Liverpool.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Calleri is league one quality. Ayew HAS to score that. I know a guy that would have…Defoe would score 15 of those for us next year. #whufc

West Ham fans laugh & mock Sturridge, yet he’s done more in one game since Jan, than Calleri has all season !!! #whufc – I’d have him.

Let’s not talk about Jonathan Calleri. #WHUFC

How is Calleri still playing? What a woeful footballer, not only does he offer nothing he causes issues by losing the ball constantly #WHUFC

I genuinely can’t stand watching Jonathan Calleri play. He barely moves and his hold-up play is awful. Can’t stand him. #whufc

Please get Calleri off the pitch, hasn’t passed to his team yet. Waste of space #WHUFC

West Ham’s defeat comes nine days after the team ended Tottenham’s title hopes with a 1-0 win on the most memorable occasion yet since they moved to the London Stadium.
It has been a hugely disappointing campaign for the Hammers after their seventh place finish last season.
The heavy defeat against Liverpool means they drop to 12th in the table.
