Andre Ayew made his first home start for West Ham against Stoke on Saturday – and fans on Twitter were left disappointed with what they saw from him.
The 26-year-old forward started upfront for the Hammers with Michail Antonio switching to a right-wing back role and young star Edimilson Fernandes dropping to the bench.
Ayew played 62 minutes for Slaven Bilic’s team against Mark Hughes’ Potters, coming off for Ashley Fletcher in the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium following an Antonio goal and Bojan equaliser.
Fans were disappointed with what they saw from the Ghanaian on social media, but many were quick to point out that he was playing out of position as a striker.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Off pace, can't get Payet on the ball and Ayew is already drifting out of position. Far from a convincing start from #WHUFC

Andre Ayew off after an hour. Not convinced. Still nowhere near fit to be fair, but he's not a striker. Fletcher on instead of Zaza #whufc

Ayew is not a striker and never has been, he's a midfielder. Why English clubs don't get that ? ????????

Ayew made the switch to the London Stadium in the summer from Premier League rivals Swansea.
He became the club’s record signing with the fee reported to be £20.5million, but his opening few months were halted by an injury picked up in the season opener against Chelsea.
He has made just two substitute appearances since with only his second start coming against Stoke and he will be keen to impress following his big price-tag.
In other West Ham news, David Gold delivered an injury update on this striker.
