West Ham fans react on Twitter to Payet bombshell

By Emma Sanders

West Ham fans have reacted with anger on Twitter after it was revealed Dimitri Payet wants to leave the club.

Slavan Bilic announced the bombshell in his press conference on Thursday morning and claimed the attacking midfielder no longer wants to play for the club.

West Ham have had a frustrating start to the 2016-17 campaign and currently find themselves sat in 13th position despite having big ambitions at the start of the season.

They finished in seventh place last season and secured a move to the London Olympic stadium, prompting Payet to sign a new five-year deal in February.

Bilic insisted the player is not for sale despite his wish to leave but some fans have told the club to get rid of him because they want players who have the desire to play for the club.

However, other supporters have reacted with panic and they hope the situation can be resolved soon so their best player can get back to performing at the levels he showed last season.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

In 66 appearances for the club, Payet has scored 18 goals and supplied 25 assists but he has struggled to make an impact this season.

He has scored just two goals in 18 league games throughout 2016-17 but has still displayed moments of real quality, provided seven assists and remains one of the Hammers’ key players.
