West Ham fans react on Twitter to reported new playmaker bid

By Matt Farr

West Ham have had a third offer for Hull sensation Robert Snodgrass rejected – and fans on Twitter gave mixed reviews.

Sky Sports revealed on Wednesday in their live transfer centre blog (12:14pm) that Hull had rejected an improved £6 million offer for the Scotland international.

The 29-year-old remains a key target for Hammers boss Slaven Bilic, but he is getting no closer to bringing him to the Olympic Stadium this month after seeing his latest bid rebuffed.

West Ham had earlier opened negotiations with a £3million bid, before improving their offer to £5million a week ago.

However, Hull remain determined to keep hold of their most-prized asset, with Snodgrass having contributed nine goals and four assists from 24 appearances for the relegation-threatened side this season.

West Ham fans had mixed feelings about their latest failed attempt to land the winger, with some urging the club to throw caution to the wind and submit a more reasonable offer, while others did not believe that Snodgrass was worth the bother.

Here are some of their messages on Twitter:

West Ham fans have not yet had much to cheer about in the transfer market this month, with no new signings announced, and star player Dimitri Payet throwing his future into turmoil.

The France international wants to return to his homeland with Marseille, and has requested to leave the club. However, the Hammers do not want to let him leave the club, and he has since been exiled to the reserve squad.

Meanwhile, the club are still on the hunt for a new goalscorer, and talks with Brentford over a move for Scott Hogan are still ongoing.

Football Insider verdict

If West Ham are serious about landing Snodgrass this month, they will have to table a much better offer. He is Hull’s best player, and their Premier League survival hopes ultimately hinge on him remaining at the club. Therefore, they will be looking to get as much out of West Ham as possible. Snodgrass could do a decent job for the Hammers, who are desperate for more attacking talent amid the current uncertainty regarding Dimitri Payet. Snodgrass would fit well into West Ham’s current system, which would means they would have to waste little time getting him to adjust to life in east London. The fans do raise an excellent point though. West Ham insist that Marseille are being unreasonable in their bid to land Payet, yet their pursuit of Snodgrass is not much different.
