West Ham installed huge bookies favourites to sign right-winger

By Harry Sykes

West Ham are the runaway favourites to sign Brentford right-winger Jota this summer, according to the latest bookmaker odds.

SkyBet priced the Hammers at 5/4 on Friday afternoon to sign the Spanish attacking midfielder before the transfer window shuts next month.

They are priced far shorter than rival clubs, with Newcastle (6/1), Middlesbrough (18/1), Wolves (20/1), Burnley and Derby (both 25/1) lagging a long way behind in the betting.

Sky Bet priced the Hammers at 7/1 last month to sign the diminutive playmaker but the odds have shifted after reports they want to sign him.

Brentford are said to value Jota at £8million after his excellent form in the second half of last season.

He scored 12 goals and supplied five assists in 21 Championship appearances following his return in January from an 18-month loan spell at La Liga outfit Eibar that was abruptly ended after the second-tier club exercised their recall option.

He made just seven appearances for Eibar in the first half of the 2016/17 campaign, but had no such struggles with Brentford as he averaged more than a goal every other game in the Championship.

Jota has a year remaining on his contract with the London club, where his 68 league appearances have yielded an impressive 23 goals and eight assists.

In other West Ham transfer news, the sporting director of European giants is hopeful his side can complete a momentous deal with the Hammers.
