West Ham get extra £12m+ after exits completed – sources

West Ham have cut more than £12million from their annual wage bill after several high-profile figures moved on over the summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Ben Johnson, Angelo Ogbonna, Joseph Anang and Divin Mubama all left the club on free transfers following the expiration of their contracts on 30 June.

Flynn Downes, Said Benrahma and Thilo Kehrer were sold to Southampton, Lyon and Monaco after spending time on loan with those clubs last season, while Nathan Trott’s move to FC Copenhagen ensured the East Londoners raked in just short of £40million for those transfers.

Senior stars Nayef Aguerd, James Ward-Prowse, Kurt Zouma and Maxwel Cornet also completed loan switches away from the club, with Kalvin Phillips returning to Manchester City following his failed loan move.

Phillips, who is currently on loan at Ipswich Town, is understood to have been the highest earner of those players after banking £150,000 a week, while former club captain Zouma netted £125,000 weekly.

West Ham have made big savings after moving on senior stars

Ward-Prowse’s salary is worth £115,000 a week, with the midfielder spending this season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Kehrer was next on the list after earning £80,000 weekly before his move to Monaco was made permanent at the beginning of the summer.

Angelo Ogbonna, who joined Watford on a free transfer, is believed to have netted around £70,000 per week before his nine-year stint in east London was brought to an end.

Cornet and Aguerd banked £65,000 and £50,000 a week before completing their temporary switches to Southampton and Real Sociedad, while Benrahma was on £55,000.

Downes earned £25,000 weekly prior to exit, with academy product Johnson paid £20,000 before making his move to Ipswich Town.

Anang, Mubama and Trott, meanwhile, were all on around £4,000 a week at the London Stadium.

Sources have told Football Insider West Ham have saved around £39.9million following the departures of those 13 players during the summer window.

But new manager Julen Lopetegui did strengthen his side with nine additions after spending more than £120million.

Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Luis Guilherme, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Guido Rodriguez and Wes Foderinham all joined on permanent deals, while Jean-Clair Todibo and Carlos Soler signed on loan.

Kilman is believed to be the highest earner of the new signings after landing a £100,000-a-week deal, with Fullkrug and Wan-Bissaka both raking in £90,000.

Soler, meanwhile, is banking £80,000 weekly and Rodriguez is on £75,000.

Summerville’s £30,000-a-week deal is worth significantly less than some of his new teammates, while Guilherme, Todibo and Foderingham are each on between £15,000-£25,000 per week.

Sources have told Football Insider West Ham’s new additions have added £27.3million to their wage bill, meaning they have cut around £12.6million from their annual salary expenditure.

But the new signings haven’t helped Lopetegui get off to the ideal start at the London Stadium as his side currently sit 15th in the Premier League table after eight games.
