Kieran Maguire hails 'absolutely amazing deal' after official West Ham update

West Ham have an “absolutely amazing deal” at the London Stadium – that is just one reason Daniel Kretinsky has a bargain on his hands.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the new Hammers co-owner.

The club officially announced on 10 November that Kretinsky had bought a 27 per cent stake in the club.

The Czech billionaire, who has built a reputation for spotting undervalued assets, is believed to have paid around £150million for the stake.

West Ham have a 99-year, £2.5m-a-season deal in place to play their home football at the 60,000-capacity London Stadium.

Maguire claims that the club’s brand and the agreement at the Olympic Park make Kretinsky’s investment a shrewd one.

“The deal valued West Ham at twice as much as Newcastle,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Some people queried that, but it has the London factor and the potential for sports tourism.

“The club is clearly performing well on the pitch. It will not be easy to break into the top six, but regular European football will add to the revenue.

“We are seeing private investors buy into clubs because of intellectual property rights.

‘”West Ham is a brand in its own right because of its history with the England team, Bobby Moore and so on.

“If investors can exploit that then it can provide a positive return. West Ham have also got an absolutely amazing deal at the stadium at £2.5m per year.

“They don’t have to pay maintenance costs or interests on the loans for the construction of the stadium

“So all in all, they wouldn’t necessarily be better off if they did own the stadium.”
