West Ham in Julen Lopetegui sack talks today- sources
West Ham chiefs are set for Julen Lopetegui sack talks on Wednesday as his dismissal edges closer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Spaniard is clinging on to his job at West Ham after the club’s supporters turned on him towards the end of Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Lopetegui endured chants of “sacked in the morning” from the 3,000 travelling fans and is under mounting pressure, with Sergio Conceicao emerging as a potential contender to replace him.
Now, the West Ham hierarchy are set to discuss whether to take the drastic option of sacking their summer appointee four months into the campaign and replacing him ahead of Monday’s crucial Premier League clash against Wolves.
West Ham spent over £100 million in the summer as Lopetegui was financially backed, but sustained a seventh Premier League defeat at struggling Leicester to leave Lopetegui’s future vulnerable.
The former Real Madrid and Wolves boss appeared to be on safe ground after overseeing a landmark win over Newcastle United but there has been a torrent of criticism from fans on the back of consecutive defeats, starting with a 5-2 hammering at the hands of Arsenal last weekend.
Conceicao is available after leaving Porto at the end of last season and West Ham now face a key decision before they play Lopetegui’s former club Wolves on Monday night.
Julen Lopetegui is on the brink at West Ham after defeat to Leicester City followed Arsenal thrashing
The Hammers appeared to turn a corner when defeating the Magpies last Monday (25 November), but they followed that by conceding eight goals in consecutive defeats to undo that progress.
The decision could prove to be a popular one amongst the Hammers faithful, who all began calling for his job after the loss to Arsenal.

Lopetegui’s side have a promising run of games ahead of them facing Wolves, Bournemouth, Brighton, and Southampton in their next four fixtures before tricky tests against Liverpool and Man City.
The Irons are 14th in the Premier League table, sitting just six points above the relegation zone.
