West Ham make move to beat Tottenham to Angel Gomes deal – sources

West Ham have moved to steal a march on their Premier League rivals in the race for Lille star Angel Gomes, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old is set to walk away from the French club for free at the end of his contract in June.

Tottenham are among the sides keen on Gomes with a host of Premier League clubs set to make a move for the midfield star following his breakthrough with England’s senior side.

He has racked up four Three Lions caps after catching the eye with his performances for Lille in recent years.

West Ham have advanced their interest as they look to bolster Graham Potter’s squad in the off-season.

It is believed Premier League sides will be queueing up to sign Gomes while foreign sides are also expected to enter the race after his time with Lille and Boavista.

Gomes has made 20 appearances across all competitions this term, notching two goals and one assist.

He has played 134 times for Lille, including in the Champions League, since leaving Man United for France in 2020.

The London-born ace can play in central midfield, attacking midfield and on the left flank.

West Ham work on Dan Ashworth deal

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (6 March) that West Ham are working on a deal to appoint ex-Man United and Newcastle recruitment chief Dan Ashworth.

Ashworth was appointed as sporting director at United last year and arrived in July 2024, before leaving the club just five months later.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that the 54-year-old’s appointment set Man United back around £5million in total.
