West Ham table mega new bid - report
By Emma Sanders
West Ham have tabled a record-breaking bid for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, according to reports.
The Insider column on the club’s official website revealed West Ham have made a £20million bid for a player from Scotland.
The report does not name the player but it was widely reported on Thursday night that the footballer in question is former Fulham ace Dembele.
On Wednesday morning, the Scottish Sun revealed the club were interested in signing the prolific Celtic spearhead and it is believed the £20million fee has been offered for the Frenchman.
“My understanding is that the Board are committed to giving the club the best possible chance of achieving that target, and have allocated significant funds to bolstering the squad,” wrote The Insider.

“To that end, a bid of £20m – a figure close to the Club’s all-time transfer record – was submitted for a player from Scotland.”
The Hammers are believed to be the first Premier League club to make a bid for the striker who is in demand by a number of English clubs.
The £20million bid would be new Scottish record were it to be accepted and as revealed by the Insider, it will come close to West Ham’s current record signing which they made for Andre Ayew in the summer in a fee reported to be around the same amount.
Dembele has been in excellent form for Celtic this season and has already scored nine goals in 20 Premiership appearances as his side have stormed to the top of the league table.
The 20-year-old is already a regular international for France under-21s alongside Premier League star Anthony Martial and he was voted the country’s best player in his age group earlier this season.
The striker has netted 19 goals in 36 total appearances this season but Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly stated Dembele is not up for sale in January.
Football Insider verdict:
The Hammers are in desperate need of a new striker due to all the injuries Slaven Bilic’s side have picked up this season. Dembele would certainly solve that for West Ham but it would take a huge fee to take him away from Celtic. £20 million would certainly be tempting but Celtic are adamant he is not up for sale. The striker has had to compete for a place in the starting XI with Leigh Griffiths though so he could demand a move away and the Premier League is certainly a desirable destination. He may hold out for offers from other clubs though so it’s unlikely West Ham will seal a deal any time soon.
