West Ham fans will forgive board if they hijack reported PL rivals bid for £14m Brazil enforcer
COMMENT
West Ham will find themselves in need of an overhaul in the summer with the board coming under fierce scrutiny for failing to improve the squad both last summer and in the January transfer window.
David Gold and David Sullivan will go a long way in earning forgiveness from the fans if they go out and hijack Premier League rivals Watford’s bid to sign Brazil international Josef de Souza.
Turkish news outlet Takvim has reported that the Hornets have made an offer worth around £11million for the 29-year-old Fenerbahce and Brazil enforcer, but it is understood that the Super Lig title chasers value him at £14million.
That fee should definitely be within reach of West Ham’s tight-fisted board and it could also be a position that needs bolstering if Joao Mario’s loan deal does not become permanent.
The report says that West Brom were interested in Josef last summer and with their relegation all-but confirmed, the Baggies may be ruing missing out a defensive midfielder who has been capped by Brazil, has European experience and has been a mainstay of Fenerbahce’s bid to win the Super Lig.
Josef has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and supply two assists in the process.
He could be the man that finally adds much-needed defensive steel and creativity into the West Ham midfield.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes must unleash this rarely-seen £10million player after the international break.
