West Ham must do all they can to ensure Fulham right-back Ryan Fredericks isn’t given enough of an opportunity to extend his stay with the Cottagers by offering him a deal he can’t refuse this summer.
The former England U19 international is out of contract this summer which means he can be signed on a free, and would therefore make his capture one of the deals of the transfer window.
Hammers boss David Moyes was spotted in the stands watching the full-back play against Leeds United in the 2-0 victory and was reportedly impressed by the 25-year-old’s display.
Pablo Zabaleta currently occupies the defensive position – and has done so with aplomb – but at 33, the Argentinian is not getting any younger and alternative options need to be considered going forward.
With nine assists from the full-back spot, Fredericks isn’t just a player who will keep out the opposition, but also a source of goals too which will undoubtedly appeal to the East London outfit.
However, with Southampton and Swansea City also monitoring the situation and the Cottagers keen to tie Fredericks down to a new deal, West Ham must be decisive and work at speed to capture their target.
