West Ham news: ‘Nightmare’ Jarrod Bowen claim issued by pundit

West Ham have been dealt a “nightmare” blow with Jarrod Bowen’s injury layoff still “up in the air”.

That is the view of former Scotland defender Alan Hutton, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the wake of an update on the 25-year-old’s injury.

As reported by The Guardian on Monday (21 March), scans have indicated the winger has suffered a fractured foot bone – but West Ham are struggling to identify the cause of the problem.

As such, the former Hull man is a doubt for the Irons’ crucial Europa League double-header against Lyon next month.

Hutton claimed the “unbelievable” star’s absence will “really hurt” West Ham and David Moyes.

“That’s a nightmare,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“If it’s a metatarsal then you know you’ve got a timeframe of 6-8 weeks to work with. But they still don’t know – are we talking a hairline fracture? It’s still all up in the air.

“I think he’s been an absolute standout this season. We talk about Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice, Michail Antonio – but Bowen has been absolutely unbelievable this season.

“They really miss him, and his pace and directness.

“To have him missing for an extended period of time will really hurt West Ham and David Moyes.”

Bowen, who was widely tipped for a maiden England call-up prior to the problem, has already missed games against Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Sevilla with the injury.

The forward has notched 12 goals and 11 assists in 39 games this term.

West Ham face a potential semi-final clash against Barcelona or Eintracht Frankfurt if they can overcome Lyon.
