West Ham news: Pundit issues ‘big’ David Moyes claim after source’s sack reveal
Noel Whelan has insisted David Moyes needs more time at West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United striker said fans have forgotten everything Moyes has done for the Hammers during his time at the club.
On Tuesday (6 December), sources told this site that the 59-year-old is close to being sacked.
The boss’ relationship with co-chairman David Sullivan has become increasingly tense due to disagreements over transfers and how they should be sourced.
Moyes will be in charge of the Irons when they resume their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Boxing Day but he could lose his job early in the new year.
Whelan claimed Moyes is the right person to take the club forward.
“Every manager knows that their lifespan at a football club depends on results,” he told Football Insider.
“The one thing that people seem to forget is that when he came into the club they were in dire straits. What he has done over the period he has been there, he has made some really tough decisions.
“Getting rid of big names that were not putting enough into the football club, transforming the side into a team that excelled very quickly into Europe.
“Everyone is very quick to get on his back. He will admit it has not been the season that he wants. He needs that little bit of time.
“People should take a step back and realise what he has actually done for the football club and what he is still building.”
