West Ham news: Pundit issues ‘big-money’ prediction after ‘huge’ David Moyes reveal

West Ham can keep “big-money assets” Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen at the club by winning the Europa League, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Irons can go to the next level by “keeping the nucleus” together.

West Ham will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final after dispatching Lyon in a 4-1 aggregate win on Thursday (14 April).

The Irons also sit sixth in the Premier League, having flirted with a top-four finish all season long.

As quoted by Sky Sports (15 April), manager David Moyes insisted his side’s achievements over the past two years have been “huge”.

When asked how West Ham can go to the next level after this season, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “You’ve got to keep the nucleus of that squad together.

“It might be difficult – they may well have to fend off some of the big boys for the big players.

“But if the worst does happen, the money you get has to go back onto the field. And if you look at what Moyes has done so far with transfers, you find it very hard to see where he can go wrong.

“But winning that Europa League might well keep those big-money assets, Rice and Bowen, at the football club. That has to be the target for West Ham now. It’s possible.”
