West Ham news: Pundit issues ‘new signing’ claim after ‘superb’ Jarrod Bowen update
Kevin Phillips has claimed it would be “superb news” for West Ham if Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek pen fresh contracts at the club.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Irons pair are attracting interest from other clubs after their recent form.
As reported by the Evening Standard on Tuesday (15 February), West Ham are plotting to open contract talks with Bowen, 25, this summer.
Football Insider revealed last week (11 February) that West Ham are also set to open talks with Soucek over a new and improved contract.
The latest update from a club source today is that the Irons are confident of agreeing extended terms with the Czech.
The Czech midfielder’s current terms expire in June 2024, while Bowen is out of contract in June 2025.
Phillips claimed the renewals could be “like signing a couple of new players” after the Irons’ disappointing January window.
“That’d be superb news for West Ham if they can get that over the line,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“They’re really making a name for themselves – Bowen particularly, I imagine is on the radar of quite a few clubs in the Premier League and rightly so.
“He’s been brilliant. To rise from the Championship to where he is now is just a credit to the player.
“Soucek is just solid in that midfield, and he can get you goals as well. He’s a consistent player, and that will attract clubs.
“That would be good business. They didn’t get anyone in January, but to tie those two down will be like signing a couple of new players.

Only Mohamed Salah (19 goals, six assists) has more goal contributions than Bowen (eight goals, eight assists) in the Premier League this season.
West Ham sit just two points adrift of fourth place.
