West Ham plan to terminate Kalvin Phillips deal – sources
West Ham will not make Kalvin Phillips’ loan spell at the club permanent this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 28-year-old has endured a torrid time at the London Stadium since arriving in January and the Irons have already decided they will terminate his deal when it ends and not look to activate the option to sign him full-time.
Phillips kickstarted Newcastle’s comeback in their 4-3 win over West Ham on Saturday (30 March) by conceding a penalty – sparking a dramatic backlash within the fanbase.
He then drew criticism by swearing at a fan on his way onto the club’s team bus as they departed St James’ Park.
And in a new blow for Phillips, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that he is set to miss out on the squad for this summer’s European Championships in Germany.
Phillips set to miss out on Euros place after nightmare West Ham start
The midfielder had made the squad last year despite playing sparingly for Man City but was dropped for March’s friendlies against Brazil and Belgium and is now set to lose his place for the Euros.
Phillips has played nine times for West Ham since arriving, starting in just three of those outings.
Speaking after the team bus incident in a press conference on Monday (1 April), manager David Moyes insisted Phillips needs “support and people to help him” – and refused to condemn his actions.
Nevertheless, the 31-cap England international is set to return to parent club Man City this summer.

He has made just six starts in 31 total appearances for City since joining from Leeds United for a reported £45million in 2022.
Football Insider revealed in February that West Ham paid a £3million loan fee to take Phillips for six months – and are also covering the entirety of his £140,000-a-week salary.
