West Ham were embarrassed 4-0 by Everton in their clash at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
The Hammers came into the clash off the back of a 1-1 draw against Leicester City, while the Toffees were hoping to bounce back to winning ways after themselves being humiliated in a 4-1 defeat away at Southampton over the weekend.
A headed goal from Wayne Rooney, coming after a penalty save from Joe Hart who had conceded the spot kick, opened the scoring, and he netted again before half time to give the home side a 2-0 lead at half time.
He completed his hat trick with an outstanding driven strike from his own half, while Ashley Williams finished off the scoring with a well taken header from a corner.
West Ham could have brought it back to 2-1 had Manuel Lanzini converted the Hammers’ own penalty attempt, but Jordan Pickford got down low to his left to keep his clean sheet.
