West Ham players react to Niclas Füllkrug’s ‘deserved’ message after Liverpool loss
Niclas Füllkrug has sent an “unlucky” message to the West Ham supporters in light of their narrow 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.
After a dominant opening 20 minutes, the excellence of Mohamed Salah in his first game since signing a two-year contract extension, provided the spark for Luis Diaz to open the scoring.
Graham Potter’s side quickly after the break and eventually got their reward in the 86th minute when Virgil van Dijk kicked the ball at Andy Robertson, with the latter putting it in his own net.
However, the Liverpool captain went from zero to hero just moments from full-time, as he climbed the highest to finish Alexis Mac Allister‘s corner and put Liverpool within touching distance of the title.

West Ham struggled to match the intensity set by Liverpool in the opening exchanges at Anfield and barely ventured out of their own half before the break.
However, Potter’s decision to bring Lucas Paqueta slightly deeper allowed the Brazilian to operate in tight spaces and in turn get West Ham up the pitch.
Despite playing with the hearing of his spot-fixing changes adjourned until after the season, Paqueta did not let that affect his performance.

The attacking midfielder was the best player on the pitch in the second-half and should have got an assist for an excellent through ball to find Jarrod Bowen in behind.
Despite the result, it was a showing which could spark some life into the Hammers’ season, ahead of next campaign in which they desperately need to improve.
