West Ham predicted to strike blockbuster Antonio deal after talks get underway - pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped West Ham to make Michail Antonio the club’s top earner amid reported talks over a new contract.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 31-year-old deserves a blockbuster deal after his “outstanding” performances.

The Times report (29th Ocotber) the Irons have held talks about rewarding Antonio with a new and improved deal.

The striker’s current deal, which runs until 2023, is reportedly worth £70,000-a-week.

Andriy Yarmolenko is said to be the Hammers’ current top earner with a £110,000-a-week contract.

However, Hutton suggested Antonio could take that mantle with his prospective new terms.

Asked about the possibility of Antonio becoming the club’s highest-paid player, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Yeah, I think that’s fair enough. I don’t think anybody could argue with that.

“What he’s done over the last few seasons has been outstanding. Tie him down, he’s the main man.

“Obviously the only worry is when he’s missing, maybe when he’s got a hamstring injury or whatever. Do they need a little bit of backup to help him get through those periods of time?

“But look, he’s a fantastic player. So difficult to play against, very strong. To me, at this moment in time, it looks like he’s just enjoying his football.

“That’s what that team to me looks like. There’s no bad eggs in the dressing room, everybody’s pulling in one direction.

“They are all happy, turning up, giving their all for David Moyes. It’s actually really refreshing to see.”

Antonio has scored seven goals in 11 appearances this season.

He is eight games away from playing 200 times for the Irons.
