West Ham are readying an offer worth up to £25million for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, according to a report.
The Guardian have claimed that the Hammers are preparing to make a move for the 24-year-old following Diafra Sakho’s injury.
The Senegal international suffered a thigh injury during Sunday’s fixture against Manchester United and it was revealed on Wednesday that he is set for a six-week spell on the sidelines.
This has prompted Slaven Bilic into targeting a striker for January and it is claimed that Wilson has emerged as the manager’s main priority.
However, it is stated that Bournemouth are likely to be resistant to any bids having rejected a bid for their star man from the Hammers in May.
It is reported that West Ham have been scouting Wilson since his goals fired the Cherries to promotion in 2015 and his hat-trick against the east London side at Upton Park last season will have only brought more interest.
The striker returned from an anterior cruciate ligament injury towards the end of last season and there were fears that he may struggle to recapture his previous form.
However, with four goals and one assist in 12 appearances for Bournemouth this campaign he has produced more than Andy Carroll, Simone Zaza, Diafra Sakho, Andre Ayew and Jonathan Calleri put together.
The Hammers must now decide whether the fee is worth spending on the Englishman, who has four years left on his contract.
Football Insider verdict:
£25million is an absolutely huge fee for a player who has just one full Premier League season to his name. The fee echos desperation on West Ham’s behalf, but it has become clear as the season has progressed that they are in much need of a half-decent forward whose knees do not buckle when he comes within sniffing distance of the opposition goal. Wilson would be a good addition for the Hammers and it is clear that the club have learned the lessons of the past and will not be wasting their time on the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Carlos Bacca, as they did in the summer. However, there has to be cheaper alternatives to Wilson across the globe, who can add similar quality.
