West Ham should be wary as Crysencio Summerville drops hint over his future, Leeds fans have heard it all before
West Ham United must not get their hopes up about potentially keeping Crysencio Summerville, despite a seemingly positive Instagram message following their relegation.
The Hammers dropped into the Championship at the end of a dismal Premier League campaign, and are now expecting to lose several of their key players ahead of next season getting underway.
Summerville, Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes have all been linked with high-profile moves away in recent weeks, as Nuno Espirito Santo looks set to have his squad raided by clubs in the top-flight.
The former has impressed throughout 2025-26 with seven goals and three assists in all competitions, but there are major concerns that he won’t be happy to stick around and play Championship football.
West Ham’s transfer plans will depend heavily on the futures of their key stars, and they could have a huge transfer kitty to play with if they end up sanctioning a few significant sales.

Summerville took to Instagram on Thursday night to share his disappointment at the way West Ham’s season ended on the pitch.
The Dutchman shared a lengthy message, as he noted that the group have let down “the Irons family” who have stuck by them throughout the year.
| Stats | Summerville Totals |
| Apps (Starts) | 43 (41) |
| G/A | 28 |
| Chances Created per 90 | 2.87 |
| Successful Dribbles per 90 | 2.51 |
| Shots on Target per 90 | 1.31 |
| Duels Won % | 52% |
He concluded the post with the following statement: “West Ham United is too big, too special and too powerful to stay down. The comeback starts now.”
That could easily be taken by West Ham fans to be a hint that he intends to stay put at the London Stadium and help his teammates fight their way back into the top flight, but they should not be fully subscribing to that idea.
Journalist Kris Smith shared a post on X which included a screenshot of Summerville’s message after Leeds were beaten in the Championship play-off final back in 2024, and it shared a strikingly similar tone.
That post concluded with the words: “We will come back stronger,” but as Smith pointed out, he left the club later that summer in order to move to West Ham.
Hate to break it to you, West Ham fans, but Summerville posted this when Leeds lost the playoff final, and then joined you anyway.

He still showed up and put the graft in during our pre-season, though, so expect the same👍 https://t.co/0qmxb93uv3 pic.twitter.com/zd5kIXYEj1
With that in mind, West Ham fans must certainly take Summerville’s statement with a pinch of salt, or they could easily have their hearts broken later on in the window.
Summerville to be sacrificed amid £100m West Ham fundraiser
Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that Summerville will want to leave West Ham this summer, and it could be in the club’s interest to cash in.
The football finance expert suggested that the East Londoners will need to raise around £100million in sales of their top talent in order to make up for their increased losses in the Championship.
Borson noted that the running costs of both the club and the London Stadium will be astronomical in the second tier, and they must find a way of subsidising that to ensure they can cope in the long term.
That could be achieved by further investment from the owners or other shareholders, but given the way that the club has been run in the past, that seems unlikely at this stage.
