West Ham ‘sitting up and taking notice’ of Dele Alli after what pundit’s seen at Tottenham

Potential suitors will have “sat up and taken notice” of Dele Alli’s rare Tottenham start against Liverpool, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old was looking a “little bit more like himself”.

Alli earned his first league start under Tottenham boss Antonio Conte as the north London side drew 2-2 at home against Liverpool on Sunday (19 December).

According to The Sun (20 December), West Ham and Newcastle are monitoring the situation of the 37-cap England international ahead of the January transfer window.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Alli is available for permanent, loan or loan-to-buy deals in January.

Whelan suggested Alli’s performance on Sunday has “put himself in the shop window”.

“We saw a Dele Alli which is a little bit more like himself,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He got into those dangerous areas in behind the defence, making runs which can hurt teams. He had a gilt-edged chance well saved by Allison, but you’d think that a more confident Dele Alli would have put it in the back of the net.

“His overall work ethic, hunger, and attitude to the game seemed a little bit more like what we’d come to expect from a player with his talent.

“Clubs who were maybe looking at him would have definitely sat up and took notice of that performance. He’s put himself in the shop window.”

Alli enjoyed a run of five consecutive starts under former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo at the start of this term.

Prior to Sunday, the midfielder had played just two Premier League minutes under Conte’s stewardship.
