Expert: West Ham star Manuel Lanzini 'shaken up' after 'really scary' incident

West Ham star Manuel Lanzini is likely not in the right frame of mind to return so soon after a “really scary” car crash.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Lanzini, 29, was unhurt as his chauffeur-driven Mercedes lost control and came off the A12 last Wednesday (30 March).

The attacking midfielder was not in the matchday squad for the Hammers’ 2-1 win over Everton last Sunday (3 April).

Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast on Monday (4 April), ExWHUemployee said that the Argentine is “still shaken up” by the incident.

Lanzini is suspended for tonight’s (7 April) quarter-final first-leg clash against Lyon tonight after picking up three bookings in the Europa League.

Dinnery emphasised the psychological impact of his car crash and argued that it is probably a blessing in disguise that he is unavailable tonight.

“At the highest level, everything is small margins,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

That mindset, that drive, that motivation, they differentiate the best from the rest.

“He’s come out and said it was a really scary situation. He’s got a couple of bumps and bruises but thankfully nothing major.

“He’ll have had heavily disrupted preparation to the game last weekend and he might not have been fully focused.

“I think the fact that Jarrod Bowen trained over the international break, that gave Moyes an easy decision to make.

“Lanzini is suspended for the Europa game, so he has a full week to recover and get himself back on track again.”

Lanzini has registered six goals and three assists in 35 appearances this term.

He will be in line to return when the Irons face Brentford on Sunday (10 April).
