West Ham star Niclas Fullkrug out of Fulham Clash with injury

West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug is set to miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with Fulham after picking up an injury on international duty.

The 31-year-old striker was left out of the line-up in Germany’s 2-2 UEFA Nations League draw with the Netherlands on Tuesday (September 10).

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann left Fullkrug out as a precautionary measure to avoid long-term consequences and he has since returned to West Ham.

The forward is yet to start a game for his new club, playing just 63 minutes across their opening three Premier League games since joining from Borussia Dortmund for £27million back in August.

Fullkrug has scored an impressive 14 goals in 22 appearances for the German national team, bagging two goals in just 161 minutes at Euro 2024.

A throwback to a bygone era of dogged number nines, 15 goals in 43 appearances for Dortmund last season caught the attention of the East London club.

Speaking on Tuesday, Naglesmann said: “It’s nothing serious. Unfortunately, the area is a bit problematic because it’s the transition to the Achilles tendon at the bottom of the calf.

“If something were to happen, it would be long-term. That’s why we’re not taking any risks.

“He will have to take a few days off. He will not be playing in the Premier League at the weekend.”

Julen Lopetegui’s side are set to face two West London clubs in a row with Chelsea due to visit the London Stadium after their visit to Fulham.
