West Ham tipped to cause ‘upset’ with two late signings after source’s reveal – pundit

Kevin Phillips has urged West Ham to make a “final push” for European football this season by adding “one or two signings” this month.

The former England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed continental football could keep the likes of Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen at the London Stadium.

This site revealed via an Irons source on Thursday (27 January) that West Ham have narrowed their striker search down to Southampton loanee Armando Broja, 20, and Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz, 22, as the end of the window approaches.

David Moyes is believed to be personally overseeing the club’s late-window assault as the Hammers eye a top-four finish this term.

Phillips insisted there is “no doubt” that West Ham will face a struggle to keep Rice and Bowen this summer.

“It would be a big opportunity missed if they can’t make a final push for European football in this window,” Phillips told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“They’ve got themselves in a great position. Did I ever think they’d get in the top four? No, but they’ll be in and around it, for sure.

“They’ll give it their best shot. One or two signings would really give them every chance of causing an upset in that top four.

“The big test is yet to come in the summer. Rice and Bowen are both players who will have interest and bids coming their way, there’s no doubt about it.

“If they can get a top striker, they’ll be in a great position to play in Europe again. That could be the difference in keeping those sorts of players.”
