West Ham tipped to complete star January signing after ‘massive’ Zouma news

Alan Hutton has tipped West Ham to sign at least one new centre-back in January after an update on Kurt Zouma’s injury.

The former Aston Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 27-year-old’s enforced absence would be a “massive blow” for David Moyes’ men.

As confirmed on Tuesday (7 December), Zouma suffered a hamstring tendon injury in the win over Chelsea.

He has already begun his recovery process, with the Guardian yesterday (7 December) claiming he could be out for 12 weeks.

With Angelo Ogbonna already out for the season, Hutton insisted signing a new centre-back is a must for Moyes next month.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Of course it’s a worry. When Ogbonna got the serious injury, I was then talking that they possibly need to bring somebody in.

“Now you’re other centre-half is injured. It’s a massive blow that he may be out three months so it’s something that they’re probably going to have to look at in the transfer window.

“Can they bring someone in? The squad doesn’t go that deep. I think they’ve got a very strong starting XI and then maybe a couple after that.

“Then they need to kind of bulk up a little bit. Sign some real competition that’s going to come in and help your team, not just there for numbers.

“I think that’s an area that David Moyes will probably be looking at in January.”

Zouma, who joined from Chelsea this summer, played every minute of his first 10 appearances for the Irons.

Moyes now only has Issa Diop and Craig Dawson as his available senior centre-backs options.

In other news, pundit claims West Ham could seal “great” loan-to-buy deal from Premier League giants in January.
