West Ham tipped to sign Michail Antonio rival as approach made for Arsenal star - pundit
West Ham need to sign genuine competition for Michail Antonio as they plot a summer move for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Irons should be looking for potential first-choice strikers rather than squad players.
As revealed by Football Insider on Wednesday (6 April), West Ham have registered their interest in Nketiah, 22, ahead of the summer window.
The Arsenal hitman will be out of contract and he has decided the leave the Gunners.
A West Ham source told this site the club have made contact over a prospective move.
McLeish insisted the Hammers need to recruit a striker who can push Antonio for a starting spot next season.

“The analysts work in recruitment but David Moyes has to have the last say,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Eddie, is he at the level of going straight into West Ham and playing every week and getting games? It could be more of a process for him at Arsenal. He’s still very young.
“He should probably be at a level where, if he makes the leap to West Ham, he would be expected to be involved almost in every game.
“I don’t think he should be going just to be in every 10 games or something. If he’s at the level West Ham want for their assault on European places, they have to do business.
“Antonio has bursts, doesn’t he? He was blooming tremendous against Everton. He caused them no end of trouble with his runs. His running came through the middle, down the left, on the breaks.
“When he’s in that kind of mood, it’s difficult to do that for 50 games a season. Creative players, they have one bad day and everybody says: ‘He didn’t play well, what do you think?’
“But you’ve got to give these guys a wee bit of respect.”
