West Ham tipped to sign 'red hot' Simeone after Maguire's £71m reveal - pundit

Giovanni Simeone could be exactly what West Ham need and he would surely jump at the chance to sign for David Moyes’ side.

That is the view of ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “red hot” Argentine striker.

The Daily Express reported on 9 November that West Ham are interested in a deal for Simeone and have made enquiries on two occasions this year.

The striker, who is the son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, is currently on loan on loan at Hellas Verona from fellow Serie A side Cagliari.

Simeone’s nine goals this season have all come in his last seven matches, and he has also registered three assists.

His Cagliari contract expires in 2024, but Hellas Verona have the option to make the loan deal permanent for £10.2million at the end of the season.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire told this site on 12 November that West Ham could spend £71m in January and still comply with financial fair play.

And Kenny insists that the Irons should use a chunk of that cash to strike a deal for Simeone.

“He could form a two-man partnership with Antonio up front,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“He’s meant to be a quick striker and obviously he’s in red hot form on loan. That record speaks for itself, really.

“West Ham are doing unbelievably but it would be good to take some pressure off Antonio.

“He could either play off him up front or fill in when they need to give Antonio a rest.

“So he could be exactly what they are after. And why would anyone turn down the chance to join West Ham at the moment?”
