West Ham told to accept Edson Alvarez offer – Fans react
West Ham fans have called for the club to sell Edson Alvarez should an offer arrive after his “shocker” performance against Liverpool.
Julen Lopetegui’s side were picked apart by the hosts at Anfield as they lost 5-1 after braces from Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo, and a strike from Mohammed Salah.
However, their task was made significantly harder after Alvarez picked up a second yellow card in the 76th minute, after which the Hammers conceded two of the five goals.
Having already been booked earlier in the game, the 26-year-old lunged into a late challenge on Salah while the Reds were breaking on the counter-attack.
Fans are insisting there was no need to make the late challenge, particularly as he was already on a yellow card, and have questioned the midfielder’s actions.
Now, fans have labelled the midfielder a “liability” and are calling for him to be axed from Lopetegui’s side and sold when the transfer window opens.
West Ham fans tear into Edson Alvarez after red card v Liverpool
Alvarez has featured in six of the Hammers’ seven games so far this season since recovering from a thigh injury, establishing himself as a key player in Lopetegui’s new system.
However, given the poor results they have faced in what has been their worst-ever start to the season, the midfielder’s displays have been highlighted as a weak link.
Following his dismissal against Liverpool, fans have labelled the Mexican “an embarrassment” and a “liability”, calling for the club to cash in on his signature.
In other news, fans are convinced Lopetegui will be “sacked by Christmas”.
