West Ham told to complete double striker deal amid ‘£70m’ Gianluca Scamacca verdict – pundit

Noel Whelan has urged West Ham to bolster their attack by landing Gianluca Scamacca and Armando Broja this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a show of “serious intent” in the transfer market could keep key men like Declan Rice, 23, at the London Stadium.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (15 July), West Ham have submitted a bid worth €47million (£39.9million) for Scamacca, 23 – who has attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail claim (17 July) the Irons are set to sign Chelsea striker Broja, 20, on a season-long loan – despite wanting the Albania international permanently.

Scamacca notched 16 goals for Sassuolo last term, while Broja managed nine strikes on loan at Southampton.

Michail Antonio is West Ham’s only senior option at striker at present.

Whelan suggested the Irons’ £40million outlay for Scamacca could see him sold for £70million in the future.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “There’s no doubt – it’s an area they need to strengthen.

“We’ve been saying that for two seasons now after Haller went to Ajax.

“It’s a lot of money [for Scamacca] but a top-class striker has resale value. They could get him in and sell him on for £70million in a couple of years.

“They’ve got to be serious. Declan Rice is going to want to have good players around him and see that serious intent from West Ham in the transfer market.

“They need two strikers, really. We know they’re in for Broja as well, which would be another good signing.

“If there’s nothing coming out of that academy, then I think two new faces up front is a necessity.”
